You love candles right? We all want to get the most out of our candles and burn them as long as possible. So how can you make your candle last longer? Follow these candle care tips to maximize your candles burn time.
Full Melting Pool
Everytime you burn your soy candle it is important to allow the wax to create a full melting pool. This is when the wax melts all the way to the sides of your candle jar. Depending on the candle jar size, this should take anywhere from 1-3 hours. Failure to do this will often cause “tunneling.” Tunneling is where the wax around the center of the wick melts and burns down. This occurs when the candle is not burned long enough or the wick is too small for the jar. Because all of the wax is not being burned, this shortens the life of your candle. It is important to not burn a candle longer than 4 hours.
Trim Your Wick
Remember to trim the wick before each burn. Try to keep your wick trimmed to about 1/8". This promotes a clean and even burn while also minimizing soot. It also will prevent mushrooming, the black curly thing, on the top of the wick. To keep the candle wick trimmed, you can use scissors, nail clippers or a wick trimmer.
Be sure to burn your candle in places away from drafts. If you notice the flame of your candle flickering around too much, move it to a different location. Try to stay away from things like windows, fans, vents, etc. The air movement will cause the candle to burn unevenly, shortening the life of your candle.
Keep It Clean
Always keep a lid on your candle when not in use. You should try to keep your candle free of any dust or debris as this is not good for the wax. If you do have any dust or debris on top of your candle, gently wipe it off with a clean, damp cloth before burning it. After burning your candle, let the candle cool completely before replacing the lid.
